How do I use the Ivory 3.1.0 Preview Update with the Roland A-88MKII?

1. Install the Ivory 3.1.0 Preview Update.

2. Connect the A-88MKII to a computer via USB and turn it on.

3. Launch Ivory Standalone and choose "A-88MK2 MIDI 2.0" (for MIDI 2.0 mode*) or "A-88MK2 Port 1" (for MIDI 1.0 mode*) as the MIDI Device.

4. On Ivory's MIDI-CI panel, click "Discover". Roland A-88MKII information will show up just below the Discover button.

5. Turn on the Piano Profile. You'll see the A-88MKII Piano Profile status change to On.

With Piano Profile turned ON:

Both Ivory and the A-88MKII use velocity maps and sustain pedal responses that are calibrated to industry standard references.

Selected knobs on the A-88MKII are assigned to parameters in Ivory. On the A-88MKII in CC mode, pressing pads 1 through 4 will page through the functions of the 8 knobs. Active knobs are lit up and will make adjustments in Ivory.

MIDI Capability Inquiry (MIDI-CI) is a MIDI 2.0 protocol enabling bi-directional exchange of detailed information between devices. It allows two devices to talk to each other and automatically configure themselves to provide you with a streamlined playing experience.

More information can be found on the MIDI Association web site:

What is MIDI-CI?

What is the Piano Profile?

The Piano Profile is currently being developed by the MIDI Association and AMEI. It is designed to address variations in touch sensitivity and pedal response across different pianos and controllers. It is modeled on the characteristics of acoustic pianos, and ensures a more accurate reproduction of the subtle nuances in your performance. Playing different keyboards, virtual instruments, and other devices that support Piano Profile will feel the same.
